Abstract: This study aims to assess the experience of Islamic banking in Algeria by analyzing its current state, the challenges it faces, and its prospects for development. The research is based on a survey distributed to 173 employees from Al Baraka Bank and Al Salam Bank. The survey results indicate that 86.2% of respondents believe that the absence of an Islamic financial market negatively impacts the future of Islamic banking in Algeria. Similarly, the same percentage highlighted that a lack of customer awareness regarding the nature of Islamic banking is one of the sector’s most significant challenges. Additionally, 81.5% of participants emphasized weak coordination between the academic and institutional sectors in training and capacity building, which hinders the development of specialized expertise. Furthermore, 78.6% of respondents noted that legal issues persist despite the enactment of regulatory frameworks for Islamic banking. Meanwhile, 69.3% identified the limited expertise of banking personnel as a key factor negatively affecting service efficiency. Another 69.3% of respondents pointed out that the lack of financial technology adoption by Islamic banks hinders their growth and development. Keywords: Islamic banking, Al Baraka Bank, Al Salam Bank.
