Abstract

The war in Ukraine had a negative impact on international stability. One of the regions that has suffered the consequences of this war is the Sahel. More specifically, this is the case of Niger, whose territory has become a contested space for the great powers. This raises questions about the nature of the interference that has been observed in this country following the coup that it has experienced. The United States has opted for a soft approach that is generally consistent with international law, which prohibits the use of force. France, on the other hand, has called for a hard approach, including military intervention in Niger. In this debate, Algeria, which has traditionally supported alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, appears to be supporting the US soft approach. However, it still maintains its distinctive commitment to the principle of non-intervention.
