The categorization of languages (CoL) is a classification at the crossroads of sociolinguistics and law: "official language", "linguistic minority", "regional language"... are notions defined as much by practices and representations as by official texts. The CoL concerns several levels: a) statutory; b) politico-cultural; c) linguistic-historical. In view of these declinations, in the article we return to the notion of langue de France (language of France: LoF) which, ratified in 2001, currently concerns 82 languages, territorial or not (including Tamazight), practiced in France since "long enough to be part of the national cultural heritage, without being an official language of any State". This definition refers to the current and future status, in France, of Tamazight, which has recently become a co-official language, alongside Arabic, in Morocco as well as in Algeria. As a result of these constitutionalizations, will Berber cease to be a LoF?
