Abstract: The subject (mubtada') in Arabic grammar is generally required to be definite, not indefinite. However, grammarians have identified several factors that justify the use of an indefinite subject, calling them "justifications for initiating with an indefinite noun." Some of these justifications are universally agreed upon, while others are a matter of ijtihad (independent reasoning) by grammarians, particularly those of later generations who focused on the educational aspects of grammar, especially in their commentaries on Ibn Malik's Alfiyyah and other texts, which have been passed down through modern grammar books. Study Objective: The study aims to clarify and refute these unfounded justifications, offering correct guidance and reasoning based on authentic Arabic grammatical tradition. The research concluded that scholars should suffice with the commonly agreed-upon justifications for starting with an indefinite noun, the most famous of which are six. It also advises avoiding the mention of justifications that can be traced back to those already agreed upon. Additionally, scholars should be aware that some justifications require explanation based on general grammatical principles, such as ellipsis, inversion, or stylistic exclusivity like exclamation. Clarifying them is mostly dependent on the context of the speech. Keywords: Initiation with an indefinite noun, definite noun, justifications, guidance, utility.
