Liver Biopsy remains a crucial cornerstone in the diagnosis of chronic liver diseases and hepatic fibrosis. This prospective study, conducted from December 2018 to December 2020, aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Liver Biopsy in diagnosing chronic liver diseases in hospitalized children aged 1 month to 15 years at the pediatric department "B" of the Constantine University Hospital. Liver Biopsy procedures, performed transparietally by an experienced operator under local anesthesia and/or sedation, reveal that Liver Biopsy remains a crucial tool for diagnosing chronic liver diseases. It is particularly useful in establishing specific diagnoses in infants with conjugated hyperbilirubinemia and in children with biliary atresia. Predominant identified etiologies include biliary atresia, cholestasis, glycogen storage diseases, and autoimmune hepatitis. No major complications were recorded. Although Liver Biopsy retains its indispensable role in the diagnosis and evaluation of chronic liver diseases, new non-invasive methods and molecular studies are gradually restricting its indications.
