Authors : Djouahra Idris .

Abstract

This paper explores the fundamental principles, methodologies, and ethical considerations of qualitative research used in social sciences. It begins with an introduction to qualitative research, outlining its definition, aims, and various types of methods. The paper then delves into ethical considerations such as informed consent, beneficence, respect, and confidentiality, which are vital in maintaining the integrity of the research process and the participants. Key qualitative research techniques, such as participant observation and interviews, are analysed with more detail, focusing on their application, advantages, and limitations. The distinction between qualitative and quantitative research is also highlighted, with an emphasis on the strengths and limitations of both approaches. Finally, the paper provides a guide to conducting participant observation and interviews, discussing various sampling methods and elements of effective data collection.
