In today's world, borders define geographical and temporal spaces ascribing forms of limits to territories. Recently, a new generation of theorists and critics has delved deeply into the study of borders. Consequently, Border studies emerged as an opposing viewpoint to the idea of a unified borderless world. This theory expands the scope of borders from geography and history to include various fields within the social sciences and global literary studies. Literature incorporates borders in several forms. Notably, Adult sci-fi novelists assiduously create borders to shape the narrative and amplify differences and similarities both explicitly and implicitly. Effectively, the extensive use of borders enriches the plot, however, it implies a complex meaning embedded in the levels affected by the established borders. This article attempts to examine “A Darker Shade of Magic” by V.E. Schwab through a Border theoretical lens in order to analyze the border planes closely. The observation of Schimanski and Wolfe´s five border planes: topographic, symbolic, temporal, epistemological, and textual borders in the novel allows for a better understanding of the significance of borders and its role in the plot.
