Violence and negotiation are two contradictory strategies for ending civil wars; the first is to subdue the opponent, the second is to reach an understanding with him. Therefore, to discuss ways to end the Syrian conflict, this article investigates the coercive aspect of the Syrians’ interaction, and is interested in their negotiating behavior to achieve their conflicting goals using different tools. Social protests turned into a conflict over Syria's political future, and the civil war stabilized after the intervention of third parties to a state of equilibrium. Although the conflict appears frozen, its complexity imposes additional burdens on the Syrians to reach a political solution through a negotiated settlement.
