The Use Of Requests And Politeness In Service Encounters: The Case Of Oran Town Halls

Abstract
On a daily basis, people use several expressions such as requests that are related to politeness. Hence, this study examines how Oran citizens construct their service encounters in terms of request strategies and politeness markers. However, in the context of service encounters any use or absence of polite expressions are not considered as face-threatening , they are used to show sympathy and friendliness and not to mitigate the imposition made from a request. (Danblon et al., 2005) Furthermore, Data was collected through the use of field-notes where data was taken manually and analyzed based on the CCSARP table proposed by Blum-kulka (1983). Results revealed that direct requests like mood derivable, want statements and need statements were more common in contrast to the conventionally indirect requests
