The present article proposes to study narcissism as a normalized cultural and psychological condition in Josef Conrad’s Heart of Darkness. It essentially aims at showing how the environmental conditions in Europe at the period of intensified imperialistic expansion from the latter half of the nineteenth century until the outbreak of WWІ paved the way for creating an egocentric and self-obsessed generation.
