The present paper attempts to examine the effectiveness of cooperative language learning (CLL) for its motivational effect on learners’ acquisition and teachers’ performance in the EFL classroom. The aim, then, is to identify and investigate teachers’ and learners’ perceptions of CLL, as well as to determine whether the performance and the acquisition of second year LMD students would improve when teachers use CLL to teach speaking skills. In this regard, two research instruments have been used to achieve the desired aims; an interview with teachers in addition to classroom observation in the English department at Hassiba Benbouali University. Thus, the present study aims to show how CLL, if effectively implemented, serves as a significant method that enhances the teaching/learning process in language classes. The analysis of the teachers’ interview reveals that they have positive attitudes towards this approach to create a motivating learning environment, and students also have positive perceptions towards the use of this effective method in their classes. The results obtained from the classroom observation confirm that students are more engaged and interested under CLL as they make significant improvement.
