Understanding Tourism: Its Bight Vs. Dark Side

Authors : Sadeki Sohir .

Abstract

Is truly tourism well-understood nowadays? Tough the concept of tourism is conventionally understood, and associated with the notion of travelling for leisure that generates “pleasure” for tourists, “money” for its business dealers, and “local development” for citizens in rural and urban areas, it has, on the other hand, viewed as “a pure danger” to nature especially to agricultural environments, “an evil hand” for money launderers, an instigator that increases cultural clashes and racism. In addition and apart from understanding this concept conventionally, there are a number of academic complexities in understanding this concept along with its significance or definition, its origin or historical background, its categories, its assets and its impacts. These complexities lie in its uncommonness, disagreements between researchers that leave tourism a misunderstood concept rather than an understood one. This article highlights more or less these complexities, so in a way or another, it may probably help in understanding tourism well.
