This study aims to examine the representations of trauma that are expressed through the subject’s derealization in the short story Paquita ou le regard ravi by Mohammed Dib (1995), from the collection La Nuit sauvage and its Arabic translation by Ibrahim Saadi (2013). The study explores the evolution of the concept of trauma and its meanings, as well as the relationship between translation studies and psychoanalysis. The interpretation-translation (intralinguistic level) draws on the thought of Sándor Ferenczi (1982) regarding Children’s trauma. It also relies on enunciation in the study of the character’s subjectivity and the way in which translation compensates for losses and gaps related to markers of a subjectivity in resilience. Thus, literalism as defined by Jean-René Ladmiral (1983) takes on, in certain cases, the linguistic character of a structural calque that affects the context, the emotional tone, and the psychological dimension of the concerned main character.
