This study examines the expressions of thức in Vietnamese through the lens of Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT). Moving beyond its basic physiological meaning, the research aims to uncover how thức is conceptually structured across embodied, cognitive, and cultural domains. The study employs descriptive and statistical methods, drawing on a large Vietnamese corpus from dictionaries, linguistic databases, and contemporary media sources to identify recurring linguistic patterns. The findings reveal that thức constitutes a multi-layered conceptual construct integrating body, mind, and soul. Central to this system is the conceptual metaphor thức is light, in which light functions as a primary source domain to structure thức. The analysis further identifies ten systematic mappings and ten conceptual metaphors. These findings support the cognitive linguistic view that conceptual metaphor is fundamental to human thought rather than merely rhetorical. The study contributes to expanding research on Vietnamese conceptual metaphors and offers implications for linguistic theory, cultural analysis, and language teaching.
