Nowadays, traditional gender roles in the home and in the workplace have changed as dual-earner families have become more common. The distribution of caregiving and household duties is still unequal, despite a notable increase in women's participation in paid labours . This article examines how gender roles are renegotiated in dual-earnerAlgerian families, with particular attention to motherhood, work, and care. Drawing on sociological gender theories, nurture , and work–family balance, the paper investigates the contractions between professional perspectives and maternal responsibilities, as well as the persistence of gendered norms in everyday family practices. The results indicate that while gender roles are evolving in terms of ideology and aspirations, caregiving is still becoming more feminized paving the way to the emergence of new types of gender inequality .
