Résumé

Considered a more cost-effective and faster method than human translation, machine translation is becoming increasingly widespread in the language services sector. Given the needs and demands of international companies and organisations, we must rethink the teaching of economic translation within the Applied Foreign Languages (LEA) programme in order to prepare students to adopt a responsible approach in a hybrid environment. In the first part of this paper, we outline the specific characteristics of economic translation as a specialised field. We then describe an activity carried out in the second year of the LEA Master's programme, aimed at raising students' awareness of this new ecosystem and helping them better understand the challenges posed by AI in the field of translation. The activity involves analysing translations of three economic texts from Spanish into French, produced using three types of tools (NMT, LLM and CAT). Following an evaluation of this experiment, the article identifies the skills that should be developed in an academic context to prepare future professionals for an environment characterised by the partial automation of language production.
