Résumé

Algerian higher education system is marked during the last five years by an increase investment on promoting entrepreneurship in the academic sphere for the aim of creating entrepreneurial universities. English for Specific Purposes (ESP) can serve as a bridge between academic English language learning and entrepreneurial innovation. This study examines how two ESP courses that adopted a project-based entrepreneurial learning (PBEL) model set the stage for the creation of a multilingual medical communication microenterprise named HEALTHISH by two English language master’s students at Ibn Khaldoun University of Tiaret, Algeria. For an in-depth understanding of the case study, data were collected from the project dissertation, training documentation produced by the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (CDE) of Tiaret, field observation notes, and a semi-structured interview conducted with the project’s founders. The study shows that the integration of project-based learning in the ESP courses through a PBEL model enabled the HEALTHISH founders to move from in-class and out-of-class project-based tasks to a CDE validated microenterprise. The study suggests that the integration of entrepreneurship project work into ESP syllabi through a PBEL model will help achieve both short-term and long-term objectives of the ministerial entrepreneurial framework. The HEALTHISH case illustrates how ESP classes can contribute directly to the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
