Résumé

This article briefly examines the plural nouns that are referenced in the Holy Qur’an from a morphological and semantic standpoint, providing an explanation of the characteristics of their structure. It discusses the definition, types, and rules of plural nouns as well as the views of both ancient and contemporary grammarians. Then, it examines each of the plural nouns mentioned in the Quranic verses in terms of their morphological structure and the meanings they convey within their Quranic context. The purpose of the current paper is to clarify the characteristics of the morphological structure of plural nouns found in the Qur’an, which appear in various morphological forms, as well as to explain the meanings they contain within the Quranic context. Thus, the morphological study examined the collective noun’s structure and its various morphological patterns in accordance with linguists' findings, while the semantic study examined the collective noun's meaning in accordance with exegetes' findings, viewing the collective noun as a name that designates a group of people or others and lacks a singular form of its own. Among the conclusions drawn from this study are that the collective noun is different from the broken plural, that it typically lacks a singular form, and that the collective noun appears in the Qur'an in a variety of morphological patterns and with a variety of meanings depending on the Qur'anic context in which it occurs.
