Résumé

This study explores the representations of the Algerian Revolution in the writings of Colombian novelist and journalist Gabriel García Márquez, who closely followed its events during the 1950s. His articles reveal a deeply humanistic perspective that transcends the national dimension, portraying the Algerian struggle as a universal symbol of liberation from colonialism. Márquez viewed the Algerian experience as a continuation of the anti-imperialist movements in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, describing post-independence Algeria as the “Havana of Africa” a hub for revolutionary thought and Third World solidarity. His approach embodies a form of political magical realism, where the brutality of war intertwines with the dream of freedom and dignity. The study concludes that the Algerian Revolution profoundly influenced Márquez’s literary and political vision .
