Abstract: This article aims to examine the metamorphosed male body in twos major works: Archéologie du chaos (amoureux) by Mustapha Benfodil and Lorsque j’étais une oeuvre d’art by Eric Emmanuel Schmitt. Both works originating from different cultural contexts features characters experiencing an identity crisis and seeking recognition from others. Through a comparative reading we propose to establish a parallel between these two texts in order to understand the representation of the male body in relation to oneself and relation to the other. We will also see how the process of the metamorphosis is reflected in both narratives.
