This study attempts to analyze the developmental trajectory of the education sector in Algeria, through a statistical and sociological reading of educational and university indicators, and the extent of their alignment with sustainable development requirements. It adopted a descriptive-analytical methodology by analyzing official data related to enrolment rates, basic infrastructure, and pedagogical supervision. The results concluded that the state has succeeded in establishing education as a sovereign right through the volume of public spending which allowed for absorption of the student mass and reduction of disparities between rural and urban areas while recording declining illiteracy rates with a surge in female enrolment at universities. However, digitalization is still the most strategic challenge that requires bridging the digital divide and modernizing pedagogy to shift from quantitative expansion to technological quality. Thereby, the transition towards smart schools and universities would be accelerated and aligned with the requirements of the global knowledge economy.
