Artificial Intelligence (AI) is playing a significant role in shaping every field of our society and the field of education is no exception. Its integration in education has transformed the learning processes due to its potential to enhance personalized learning and improve learning outcomes. However, while learners benefit greatly from AI in their academic learning, they also face new challenges. The present study aims to examine university students’ perceptions regarding the use of AI in education in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context and to highlight the factors that affect their perceptions when using AI as an academic support. This research employed a qualitative approach and the data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 10 students at the University of Djelfa. The findings of the study revealed that students view AI positively while adopting varied but generally conscious approaches to the use of AI tools.
