This article seeks to approach the concept of the imaginary world in the philosophy of Paul Ricoeur from within a hermeneutic horizon concerned with the formation of meaning and its relation to the world. It proceeds from the fundamental idea that language is not merely a tool for conveying meaning or describing reality; rather, it is a living discourse capable of producing new significations, especially through what Ricoeur calls semantic innovation. In this sense, metaphor and narrative structure allow for a reconsideration of reality and its reorganization at the level of understanding. Within this framework, the imaginary world is understood as something that exists within discourse and as a horizon formed through the interaction between discourse and the reader. This interaction leads to the reconstruction of the reader’s own experience, which Ricoeur expresses through the concept of refiguration, whereby meaning is reintegrated into lived experience and consequently reshapes the perception of time, the representation of the self, and the relationship with the world. The article further demonstrates that narrative plays a fundamental role in rendering time intelligible, transforming it from mere succession into a meaningful experience, while also contributing to the formation of identity as a narrative identity constituted through the stories we tell and interpret about our experiences. In light of this, the article concludes that imagination does not stand in opposition to reality; rather, it intertwines with and reconstructs it, opening new possibilities for understanding and living
