Abstract: The dialectic between Reason (Aql) and Tradition (Naql) represents one of the most intense intellectual conflicts that have defined Islamic history, serving as a foundational cornerstone in the construction of epistemological and ideological systems across successive eras. As this dialectic transitioned from the spheres of jurisprudence (Fiqh) and scholastic theology (Kalam) into the realm of the contemporary novel, it evolved from a mere restoration of heritage into a critical tool for understanding the present. This is precisely what Samir kasimi explores in his novel Always Beware of Dogs, a distinctive narrative work in which he employs Anthropomorphism to shift the conflict from its narrow human confines toward a fantastic/wonder-filled horizon that intersects with the tenets of Posthumanism. By vocalizing animals and equipping them with the mechanisms of rational and traditional argumentation, Kasimi transcends the traditional symbolic allegories typical of Ibn al-Muqaffa’s writings. Instead, he seeks to deconstruct Anthropocentrism and re-examine intellectual narratives through an alternative lens that shatters the boundaries between instinct and consciousness, and between the fixed and the fluid—a perspective that aligns with postmodern philosophy and its vision of the Last Man."
