Résumé

Food security is a strategic challenge for oil-dependent economies facing high exposure to market volatility and fluctuating rentier revenues. This study measures the contribution of monetary instruments to Algerian food security (1990–2024) using the ARDL model. Empirical results show that activating bank credit and expansionary measures (reducing the discount rate), alongside inflation control and flexible exchange rate management complemented by increased agricultural public spending cumulatively improved food security indicators by 0.03336, 0.0515, 0.1287, 0.2663, and 0.001875 units, respectively. These findings underscore the necessity of integrating monetary and fiscal policies to transform financial resources into productive agricultural investments supporting self-sufficiency.
