Résumé

This study investigates different sources of anxiety experienced by English major students during sight translation (SiT) tasks and the coping strategies they employed to mitigate its negative impacts. A quantitative descriptive design was adopted to collect data through a questionnaire administered to 61 third-year students of Translation and Interpreting at the English Department of a public university in northern Vietnam. The findings reveal that students felt anxiety mostly due to cognitive and linguistic-processing factors, followed by contextual factors, while assessment-driven factors were reported as the least influential. This suggests that students’ anxiety in SiT was driven more by internal processing demands than by external evaluative pressures. Among various self-regulatory strategies, problem-avoidance and negative emotional strategies were most frequently prioritized. The current study extends existing research on affective factors in interpreting by focusing on SiT as a distinct task, and offers pedagogical implications for developing anxiety-aware training practices that support both interpreting performance and learner well-being.
