ABSTRACT: The Spanish presence in colonial Algeria during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries represents a migration phenomenon of notable relevance within the Mediterranean space, despite having been addressed in a fragmented manner by Western historiography. This article proposes a historical and historiographical reading of Spanish migration to Algeria within the context of French colonization, analyzing its causes, forms, and main stages. From an analytical perspective, it examines the economic, political, and social factors that drove the mobility of Spaniards, as well as their modes of integration into colonial society and their intermediate position between the French administration and the indigenous population. Likewise, the study reviews the main historiographical contributions on the subject, highlighting dominant approaches, interpretative debates, and persistent gaps. The analysis allows an understanding of the complexity of Mediterranean migration dynamics, the processes of integration and naturalization, and the demographic, social, and cultural impact of the Spanish community, particularly in regions such as the Oran area. Overall, the study contributes to the understanding of historical relations between both shores of the Mediterranean and the role of migration processes.
