Résumé

This paper will analyse Caryl Churchill’s appliance of Jean François Lyotard’s concept of little narratives in her play Mad Forest: A Play from Romania (1990). In Mad Forest, these little narratives come to light through the play’s dramatization of the influence of the Romanian Revolution of 1989 on people’s lives and expectations. In fact, the dominant sentiment that got over Romanians was disillusionment. To bring this on stage, Churchill resorted to a number of Brechtian techniques of alienation, like: episodic structure, gestus, role doubling, historicization, etc. for a thorough analysis of the impact of this historical event, this paper will shed light as well on the social and moral issues and struggles that the play tackle.
