Leveraging Ai For Academic Excellence In Algeria: Opportunities And Priorities

This study aims to analyze the current state of Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration in Algerian universities, identify institutional and educational challenges, and propose practical solutions. Its originality lies in being one of the first comprehensive studies to address AI in Algerian higher education, using recent local and international data and incorporating direct insights from university faculty. The study adopts an analytical approach combining qualitative and quantitative data. It includes analysis of reports from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research , surveys conducted among university faculty, and a review of academic literature, including Medjahed (2025) and Bessaid (2024), to contextualize the national and regional landscape. Findings indicate that while most faculty members hold a positive view of AI’s potential in teaching and research, they face real obstacles such as lack of training, inadequate digital infrastructure, and ethical concerns. The discussion highlights the need for a comprehensive national policy to support the effective and sustainable integration of AI in higher education.
