In light of the rapid scientific and technological development, the information transmission and the widespread use of the electronic network that the world is witnessing today in various fields, have led to the emergence of a new type of education, which is E-learning (online education). This education, which relies on the Internet and modern technological and digital technologies was necessary for the Algerian University to keep pace with the developments in the field of University education, especially in the global Corona pandemic. Therefore, nowadays many teachers use this type of education to deliver their lectures. Accordingly, the present study investigates English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers’ perceptions towards the effect that online education has in enhancing EFL learners’ autonomy. To this end, the study used a questionnaire as a research tool to collect data about the topic under study. The questionnaire is conducted with 12 EFL teachers teaching master students (master one + two) in the department of English, University of Bejaia. The results of the study showed that the majority of teachers hold negative attitudes towards the use of online education and its effect in promoting autonomy among EFL learners. Most of the teachers indicated that e-learning does not contribute to enhance learners’ autonomy. The study ended with recommendations and suggestions for the teachers.
