Social Development Through Cultural Properties - Reading Hassan Fathy's Experience.

Résumé

In the context of mounting social complexity and the predominance of materialism – a by-product of the universal human aspiration to realise the optimal life – a series of issues have come to the fore, with the housing predicament being of particular significance. The population growth concomitant with the substantial development in all domains is the primary reason for its occurrence in third world countries, particularly in Egypt. This predicament has prompted the government to devise solutions, given the scarcity of resources and capabilities. In response to this challenge, the esteemed engineer Hassan Fathy unveiled a pioneering initiative, entitled "Look at the mud under your feet and build," drawing inspiration from the rich heritage architecture found in Upper Egypt. This initiative has been identified as a significant catalyst for the promotion of heritage as a catalyst for social development. في سياق التعقيد الاجتماعي المتزايد وغلبة النزعة المادية - وهي نتيجة ثانوية للتطلع الإنساني العام إلى تحقيق الحياة المثلى - برزت إلى الواجهة سلسلة من المشاكل، حيث تكتسب مشكلة الإسكان أهمية خاصة. فالزيادة السكانية المصاحبة للتطور الكبير في جميع المجالات هي السبب الرئيسي لحدوثها في دول العالم الثالث، وخاصة في مصر. وقد دفع هذا المأزق الحكومة إلى ابتكار حلول لهذه المشكلة نظراً لندرة الموارد والإمكانيات. واستجابةً لهذا التحدي، كشف المهندس القدير حسن فتحي عن مبادرة رائدة بعنوان ”انظر إلى الطين تحت قدميك وابني“، مستلهمًا من العمارة التراثية الغنية الموجودة في صعيد مصر. وقد تم تحديد هذه المبادرة كمحفز هام لتعزيز التراث كمحفز للتنمية الاجتماعية.
