This study examines the importance of professional writing in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) for medical science students at Hassiba Ben Bouali University of Chlef. In light of the increasing global need for English proficiency in medical professions, the objective is to identify student obstacles, assess their writing abilities, and evaluate the efficacy of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) training accordingly. The study employed a mixed research approach, including a questionnaire and an interview to gather data on students' perspectives and writing abilities. The results indicate that while students recognize the necessity of professional writing, they encounter difficulties in mastering medical vocabulary, ensuring coherence, and adhering to genre-specific conventions. The study concludes that customized ESP courses are essential to address these issues and recommends the incorporation of specialized vocabulary, the improvement of coherence through structured activities, and the focus on genre conventions to enhance students' professional writing skills and future contributions to the global medical community.
