Abstract: Coexistence is one of the fundamental pillars for building diverse and tolerant societies, as true coexistence requires mutual understanding and respect for cultural and religious diversity. In this context, the relationship with the “other” is explored within the framework of human globalization, which demonstrates globalization’s ability to bring cultures closer, simultaneously giving rise to challenges related to identity and belonging. Through the novel "Sweet America" by Zaineb Laouedj, the impact of human globalization on the Self and the Other is analyzed. The novel highlights the rejection of the Other by Western society, represented in West Freeland, which manifests in the racial superiority that led to the rape of Jill’s daughter and desecration of her body. This reveals the systematic violence against the Other in a society that claims to embrace multiculturalism. The novel does not merely shed light on the suffering of the Self in its relationship with the Other, but also raises questions about globalization’s role in deepening the gaps between cultures rather than bridging them, in a reductive attempt to over simplify identity.
