Etre Anthropologue Chez Soi :un Poit De Vue Algérien

Résumé
This paper aims to examinethe identity of the anthropologist inhis own country This preoccupation is based on the sense given by Claude Levi-Strauss to the anthropologist as external and distant to his fieldwork. This brings me back to the sense that Simmel gave to the researcher whom he described as a foreigner to his fieldwork, but in the sense that “He is the unity of distance and proximity”(Simmel, 1908). But the idea that I will try to defend here is that the strangeness of the Algerian anthropologist"is less an ontological attribute, its essence, than the fruit of a relationship (...)"(Alvaro Pires, 1997). This preoccupation draws its importance from the fact that during the last thirty or forty years a significant development did come in the orientation of Algerian anthropologiststowards their fieldwork, transforming it froman "anthropologized" Algeria, confined in the anthropological status of the fieldwork (See L’Algérie des anthropologuesof Jean-Claude Vatin and Philippe Lucas, 1975) to an "anthropologizing" Algeria, as a producer of an anthropological knowledge by the Algerian anthropologists evolving in Algeria. This new dynamic is part of the tendency of the deployment of anthropology outside the western areas. This tendency, announced since the end of the Second World War, seems to be irreversible. But if I refer to Levi-Strauss's metaphor according to which the anthropologist is "the astronomer of the social sciences" or the comparison that sociology is "the study of ourselves" and anthropology "the study of others",how can the Algerian anthropologist evolve in / in frontofthe society to which he himself belongs? In spite of all the evolutions recorded over more than a century, the primary characteristic of the anthropology "as a study of societies and other cultures, different or even remote from ours" (A.Béteille, 2007) has persisted.
