This study aimed to analyze the Relative Age Effect among Algeria’s U17 national team players by examining birthdate distribution across yearly quarters/thirds, differences by training location (inside vs. outside Algeria), and its impact on starting participation. Results showed a clear and statistically significant imbalance in birthdates, with most players born in the first quarter of the year (56%), compared with the other quarters (χ² = 13.56, p < .01), indicating a strong Relative Age Effect in player selection. For players born inside and outside Algeria, there was also a tendency favoring the first quarter in both groups, but differences were not statistically significant (p > .05), suggesting the effect was less decisive and may be influenced by small sample size or environmental and developmental factors. Regarding starting participation, significant differences were found (χ² = 15.09, p < .01): players born in the first third of the year started more often, while those born in the last third had the lowest rate. Overall, the study confirms the presence of the Relative Age Effect in selection and participation
