This study aims to shed light on one of the most hazardous pollutants that has attracted significant attention from both national and international legislators, due to the damage it may inflict on public health and the environment. This pollutant is represented by medical waste, which constitutes one of the most prominent challenges facing both the environment and healthcare institutions. Consequently, healthcare institutions are required to comply with legal measures to ensure the safe management of this category of waste and to adopt methods consistent with legal frameworks and international standards, with the objective of safeguarding environmental integrity and public health. This can only be achieved through the reduction, treatment, and proper disposal of medical waste. Accordingly, it has become imperative to establish management plans aimed at ensuring the safe handling of medical waste, alongside legal provisions that guarantee its treatment and monitoring for the purposes of prevention and risk mitigation. This is particularly important given that the efforts undertaken in waste management in Algeria remain limited, primarily due to the lack of reliance on modern technologies for the final disposal of this type of waste.
