The El Hadjar Complex is closely linked, for students and professors who pursued their studies and teaching in the field of Industrial Sociology (until the academic year 1990-1991) and the Sociology of Work and Organizations since 1991-1992 — particularly the course on the Sociology of the Algerian Enterprise — to the doctoral thesis defended by the decease Ali El Kenz (1946-2020) in 1983 at a French university. This thesis continues to attract the interest of students, teachers, and researchers in the field of sociology in Algeria. Through this presentation — as a tribute — we seek to return to this important research, in which Ali El Kenz went beyond studying the El Hadjar space in and of itself to address significant aspects of Algerian society during that crucial period of its historical development. As we shall see, the observations and findings reached by Ali El Kenz regarding the nature of social relations — not only within the El Hadjar Complex but also in the structure of Algerian society as a whole more than four decades ago — are still being reproduced, to a large extent, in many social representations and practices in contemporary Algerian society. Hence the importance of returning to the analysis formulated by Ali El Kenz at that time, in the hope that it may provide us with some keys to open new interpretive horizons for the current sociological situation of Algerian society
