Institutional And Technical Mechanisms For Cyber Defense In Algeria

Abstract
The article highlights the reality of cybersecurity in Algeria by tracing the evolution of cybercrime, its various forms, and the state’s institutional and legal responses, The widespread use of the internet and modern technologies has led to an increase in electronic threats targeting individuals, institutions, and national security. To address these challenges, Algeria adopted a comprehensive strategy that includes updating legislation and creating specialized bodies such as the Center for the Prevention of Cybercrime, the National Institute of Forensic Evidence, the Central Department for Combating Cybercrime, and the National Authority for the Prevention of Cybercrime. Additionally, a Cyber Defense Department was established to protect vital infrastructures, along with a National Judicial Division specializing in cybercrime. Despite these efforts, there remains a pressing need to strengthen coordination among institutions, develop specialized expertise, and enhance international cooperation to counter the growing cyber threats.
