The environment is of international concern in view of the consequences of damage to it, whether by human activity or continuous natural changes on the surface of the globe, and this importance increases during international and non-international armed conflicts where the human mind and behavior control are absent in exchange for achieving strategic and military goals for the disputants. Here, the provisions of international humanitarian law intervened to protect the category of civilians as well as to protect the environment as a cause and source of livelihood for all humanity in accordance with general legal controls and principles that regulate the rules of war and entail responsibility for the environmental damage resulting from them in order to avoid and reduce the consequences in order to ensure a decent life for humanity as a whole and not only the conflicting parties.
