Migration is a topic that has attracted a considerable number of researchers seeking to understand the history and reasons that led the Algerian population to leave the country. This movement accelerated after the French colonization of Algeria in 1830. In Kabylie, migration is part of the culture, and this phenomenon existed long before the colonization of Algeria. During the French presence, thousands of Kabyles left the country for France, primarily to work in mines, factories, and to participate in the two World Wars. After independence, this movement did not stop, but it took on a new form—family migration. In this article, we aim to trace the history and evolution of migration as a social phenomenon in Algeria. In the second part, we discuss Kabyle migration and its impact on culture and identity.
