This article addresses the polemic surrounding the existence of contemporary political theory amidst recurring calls for its "death". Traditionally focused on normative issues, political theory has experienced a qualitative revival in recent decades. First, the paper highlights the close link between political theory and moral philosophy in the Anglo-Saxon context, established by John Rawls who made 'justice as fairness' a foundational principle for the liberal order. It identifies three main trends: Political Liberalism, Libertarianism, and Analytical Marxism. Second, the article discusses the "death of political theory" argument put forth by Peter Laslett and Leo Strauss, attributed to the rise of logical positivism, behaviourism, and historicism. These claims are countered by Isaiah Berlin's argument that value pluralism is a source of theoretical renewal. Third, the paper asserts that the revival of political theory in the 1960s and 1970s resulted from dissatisfaction with behaviourism, the impact of Thomas Kuhn’s philosophy on the concept of objective science, major social transformations, and the emergence of new normative theories like the works of Rawls and Nozick. This rebirth transformed the theory into an interactive space between the normative and the actual. Finally, contemporary political theory differs from the traditional approach, moving from the quest for the ideal system (classical) to focusing on pluralism and difference, and is applied to contemporary issues such as intergenerational climate justice, cultural minority rights, and humanitarian military intervention.
