This theoretical study seeks to elucidate the nature of the relationship between listening comprehension—as a receptive skill for linguistic inputs—and semantic errors among university students majoring in the Arabic language. The study is predicated on the hypothesis that listening comprehension is a highly complex cognitive process, and that any impairment in perceiving auditory stimuli necessarily leads to semantic lapses. These lapses encompass: general meaning, synonymy, antonymy, and lexical ambiguity (homonymy). After reviewing the literature related to listening levels and the factors influencing them, the study concludes that there is a proportional relationship between deficient listening comprehension and the fragility of the student's lexical structure. The paper concludes with a set of pedagogical recommendations aimed at modernizing instructional strategies to enhance semantic competence at the university level.
