Companies are increasingly adopting artificial intelligence (AI) due to its capacity for providing precise, advanced solutions in detecting and combating corruption—especially following the failure of traditional auditing methods in several high-profile cases, most notably the Enron scandal. However, this technological capability is accompanied by concerns regarding the potential for corruption to be replicated in more sophisticated forms. Consequently, this study aims to propose a smart/hybrid governance model that integrates corporate governance principles with technological solutions to foster a corruption-resistant digital environment. To achieve this objective, a descriptive-analytical approach supported by simulation was employed. This approach involved: first, analyzing scientific literature to develop a theoretical framework for smart governance; second, examining the Powers Report's findings to identify structural weaknesses in the Enron case; and third, leveraging the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) to enhance trust and manage risks in AI systems. The simulation results revealed that intelligent governance systems must be inherently protected against both technical and financial corruption. This can be realized by embedding ethical and governance principles as software constraints (compliance automation) that clarify internal system dynamics (explainability) before alerting the organization to potential internal corruption. Ultimately, the system should be designed to eliminate corruption within the machine itself before addressing it within the corporate structure.
