The Impact Of Credit Risk Management Practices On Bank Performance: A Case Study Of The External Bank Of Algeria (bea)

Authors : Dib Lamia .

Abstract

Abstract: This study examines the effect of credit risk management practices on banking performance in the External Bank of Algeria. It aims to assess the extent to which lending procedures, creditworthiness assessment, loan monitoring, internal control, staff training, Basel II/III compliance, and early detection systems contribute to better banking performance. The study adopts a quantitative case-study design based on a structured questionnaire administered to 87 employees across BEA branches in Tlemcen, Oran, Mostaganem, and Algiers. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS through descriptive statistics, Cronbach’s alpha, normality testing, correlation, and linear regression. The results show that credit risk management practices have a positive and statistically significant effect on banking performance. The most influential dimensions are operational lending procedures, borrower assessment, monitoring, and internal control, while staff training and Basel compliance did not show a statistically significant effect when considered separately.
