This study examines the migration of the Banu Ma'qil to the Maghreb during the medieval period, highlighting the role of these tribes in Arabising the Saharan regions and reshaping the social and political structures, as well as their impact on the economic sphere. The research primarily relies on primary historical sources, most notably the works of Ibn Khaldun, employing a comparative historical analysis to trace the migration routes and assess their mechanisms of influence. The findings indicate that, despite the modest beginnings of their migration, the Banu Ma'qil transformed from a small group into a significant political and social force, contributing to: • The spread of the Arabic language across the Sahara and the Arabisation of local tribes; • The reconfiguration of tribal structures and the emergence of hybrid Arab-Berber identities; • The establishment of new political equilibria through their alliances and partial autonomy from central authority; • The stimulation of trans-Saharan trade and the security of caravan routes, albeit with a limited effect on urban and agricultural stability. The study concludes that the migration of the Banu Ma'qil was far more than a mere demographic movement; it constituted a pivotal factor in constructing the Arab-Saharan cultural and social space, underscoring its significance in understanding the profound transformations that occurred in the Maghreb during the medieval era across demographic, linguistic, social, and political dimensions.
