The Concept Of Innovation (bid'ah) And Its Conditions According To Imam Ibn Lubb Al-gharnati (d. 782 Ah)

Abstract
The term " bid‘ah" is considered in Islamic jurisprudence is widely debated among jurists, both in terms of its definition and the criteria that determine its boundaries, This study aims to clarify the view of Imam Ibn Lubb al-Gharnāṭī regarding innovation, examining both its conceptual meaning and its governing principles, as well as how he approached this term from a juristic and legal-theoretical perspective. This is done through an analysis of his legal responses and case rulings, with the objective of identifying his method in distinguishing between what is lawful and what is prohibited in human actions, and understanding his foundational and maqāṣid-oriented reasoning, The study also reveals Imam Ibn Lubb’s balanced perspective on innovation, as he combined the preservation of Shar‘i principles with consideration of practical reality.
