Pancreatic Cancer Associated With Gallbladder Carcinoma: Coincidence Or Common Genetic Pathway? Case Report

Authors : Menoura Raouf . Tibermacine Walid .

Abstract

The synchronous development of pancreatic adenocarcinoma and other tumors has rarely been reported in the literature. In this article, we report a case of a 51-year-old woman with an adenocarcinoma of the head of the pancreas associated with a papillary tumor of the gallbladder. The coexistence of these tumors poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, particularly in determining the sequence of management and the need for combined surgical resection. This case highlights the importance of thorough preoperative evaluation and intraoperative vigilance in patients presenting with pancreatic malignancies, as synchronous neoplasms, though rare, may influence prognosis and treatment strategy. Additionally, this report raises questions regarding potential shared etiological factors, including genetic predisposition, environmental exposures, or chronic inflammatory states, that may contribute to the simultaneous development of multiple primary tumors. Recognition and reporting of such cases are critical for expanding our understanding of tumor biology and guiding clinical decision-making in complex hepatopancreatobiliary oncology.
