: Abstract Algeria possesses considerable forest wealth that qualifies it to be a leading tourist hub, by allocating forest spaces for private investment in the field of ecotourism, recreation and leisure. Therefore, the present research aims to clarify the reality of recreational forests in Algeria, and assessing their contribution to improving the quality of urban life. The research also seeks to explain how these forests are established, the conditions for licensing their exploitation, and the resulting legal implications. Several conclusions were reached, including that licensing the exploitation of recreational forests is a legal mechanism aimed at enhancing and preserving forest land. It represents a model for embodying sustainable development by reconciling the protection of forest wealth with its exploitation for recreational and tourism purposes. It can also be a source of support for ecotourism and the creation of job opportunities in the field of services related to recreational activities.
