- ملخص: خلال القرن التاسع عشر شهدت الطائفة اليهودية في مصر تطورا وازدهارا في عدة مجالات منذ تولي عائلة محمد علي حكم البلاد (1805-1848م)، وذلك من خلال الرعاية الحكومية، كما شجع تسامح محمد علي و اهتمامه بتحديث مصر، على قدوم اليهود بأعداد كبيرة والاستقرار في مصر. ومن الملاحظ في هذا السياق؛ أن اليهود في مصر الوافدين منهم أو المقيمين فيها ظلوا يعتبرون أنفسهم أجانب، رغم الامتيازات الكثيرة التي منحها لهم محمد علي. Abstract; During the 19th century, the Jewish community in Egypt experienced development and prosperity in several areas, especially since the reign of the Muhammad Ali family (1805-1848 AD). Several factors had contributed to favour such a development, in particular; the tolerance of the new rulers and their plan to modernize their contry. This encouraged the massive influx of new Jews and their settlement in Egypt. However, it is striking that the Jews of Egypt, all together (whether they are former residents, or newly arrived), continue to consider themselves as foreigners, despite the many privileges granted to them by Muhammad Ali and his heirs.
