Examining The Evolution Of Algerian Exports Under The Algeria- European Union Association Agreement

Abstract
Effective from September 1, 2005, the Association Agreement between the European Union and Algeria outlines the gradual creation of a free trade area, which is to be realized through a phased tariff dismantling process. By entering into this Agreement, Algeria aimed to improve its access to the European market and bolster its export sector. This study focuses on the trade part of the Association Agreement, analyzing the evolution of Algerian exports to the European Union between 2005 and 2024. The analysis of the evolution of Algerian exports to the EU reveals that the most of exports to the EU benefit from the preferential regime. The exported products are mainly hydrocarbon derivatives, which affirm the lack of diversification in the Algerian economy.
